First Impressions

Hi, I will write a reading blog about the novel "Holes" by Louis Sachar, because it is homework which I must do on my semester holiday. Although I don't see it as homework. It is a blog which I can share my thoughts about a book and I guess it will be fun.

Before I start reading the book, I googled it and found out there is a movie based on the book. Below you can watch the trailer of the movie :

Well now I'd like to talk about my first impressions.

The book started with a mysterious part. After reading the first part some questions appeared in my mind.

- What kind of title is "Holes" ?
- What's going on in Camp Green Lake ?
- What kind of a camp is it ?

The first part describes a camp called Camp Green Lake. However it sounds like a concentration camp rather than a holiday camp. There are dangerous wild animals, like scorpions, snakes and poisonous lizards, which may cause a camper's death or a painful disease. I think the best text passage which intorduces the danger in this camp is :

"But you don't want to be bitten by a yellow-spotted lizard. That's the worst thing that can happen to you. You will die a slow and painful death."

After I read the first part I got a question in mind. Why would anyone go to this camp, if it is so dangerous ? I kept reading and I found out that Camp Green Lake wasn't a holiday camp but a punishment which a judge gives to bad boys. In other words people who were in this camp were galley slaves.

It seems like that interesting things will happen. Let's keep reading and see what will happen.
